Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Repair in Ludington, MI
When your vehicle’s dashboard displays a picture of a tire with an exclamation point in the middle, it usually means that the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (often shortened to TPMS) detected air pressure drop in one or more of your vehicle’s tires, and it’s a good idea to head to a near auto repair shop or a tire shop to have it checked out. At Mick’s Truck and Auto we offer complete tire repair services, and can provide Tire Pressure Monitoring System repairs as well.
Why would we offer TPMS repairs, it’s the tire that’s faulty, right? Actually, some percentage of TPMS warning lights come on not because of tire problems, but because the tire pressure monitoring system itself is having issues. Even though the tires are in fine condition, the TPMS light can come on because of a sensor malfunction, an electrical malfunction, or even something as seemingly trivial as a dead sensor battery.
If you bring your vehicle to Mick’s Truck and Auto in Ludington, our nationally ASE certified technicians will find the root cause of the TPMS light, and they will let you know what needs to be done to repair your vehicle – whether it involves tires or the TPMS system itself. Naturally, since we have your vehicle at our shop, we will check and adjust tire pressure per manufacturer’s specifications.
In most cases, the TPMS system does function correctly, and at least one of the tires is underinflated. If the under-inflation is not severe, and there is no obvious damage to the tire, we would add air to the tire, and clear the TPMS light. If the light comes on again, this would indicate an air leak due to overall tire condition or a nail somewhere in the tire. At this point we would remove the nail and attempt to repair the tire – however, if the nail is in the sidewall, the tire cannot be repaired and we would recommend tire replacement. Severely worn tires need to be replaced as well. At Mick’s Truck and Auto we offer new tires, and can mount and balance them on the spot. We also offer wheel alignment service, if needed.
